The following information is provided to help you present a successful audition for acceptance as a music major at Alliance University, and/or for consideration for a music scholarship.

Get Accepted to Alliance University

In order to become a music major here at Alliance University or be considered for a music scholarship, you must first be accepted to AU. You may request a mail in application, apply online, or come visit us on campus and fill out an application in person.

Submit Your Music Questionnaire

This is a short survey of your prior music experience and interests. Submitting this gives the School of Music a chance to get to know you, and where you stand musically, as well as what you plan to do with the music education you receive while at AU. The questionnaire finishes with an essay to determine your language proficiency and communication skills.

Applicants who live farther than 200 miles or who have no transportation to the campus due to certain circumstances may audition via a high quality recorded video.  If you are posting your audition on YouTube, Vimeo, or Facebook, you must provide the Music Office a working link to your video as well as a list of titles and composers.

Below are some guidelines to help you choose appropriate repertoire for your audition:

Ensembles, Music Minors, or Interdisciplinary Studies major with a Music Concentration: Present a minimum of one selection in any style that shows an aptitude for college level music study.

Music Majors in the 2-year and 4-year programs, and/or for consideration for a Music Scholarship: Present a minimum of two solo pieces, contrasting in style.

Vocalists: Perform your pieces from memory. An accompanist can be provided or you may use your own accompanist.  A piece performed in a foreign language is a good choice for a vocal audition., but you may use a hymn instead if you do not happen to know a classical piece. Acceptable hymns include such selections as found in a hymnal, including “Amazing Grace,” “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord?” “It is Well with My Soul” or other selection which could give an idea of your communication skills and vocal range.

Keyboard Players and Guitarists: Perform 2-4 pieces from memory if possible. Be prepared to perform scales and arpeggios.

Instrumentalists: May perform with music. An accompanist can be provided or you may use your own accompanist.  Be prepared to perform scales and arpeggios.
