Director of Global Service-Learning Dr. Scott Reitz hosts guests from around the world to speak to students in his Bachelor of Science in Global Community Development program. “New York City is a hub for the world’s people and we have a beautiful community here tied together by friendship and faith,” says Dr. Reitz, who is also an Associate Professor of Intercultural Studies.
On Thursday, September 22, 10:15 AM – 11:455 AM, he will welcome His Excellency Leon Kaulahao Siu, Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Hawaiian Kingdom to visit the Alliance University campus. Minister Siu will speak on “The Restoration of the Hawaiian Kingdom.” The Hawaiian Kingdom is in the process of being reactivated as a sovereign, independent nation-state. As its Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister Siu’s duties are to resume and normalize diplomatic relations with other independent states and engage with various international bodies.
Exposure to global leadership and multicultural environments is a cornerstone of the Global Community Development degree. Students in this major graduate with a thorough understanding of the history, theory, best practices, missiology, and biblical perspective of community development with specialized experiences in organizations and ministries working with at-risk and under-resourced communities.
