Remembering the Well-Lived Life of Mrs. Eunice Brewer
July 22, 2021
We remember the well-lived life of Mrs. Eunice Brewer who passed away on June 11, 2021 at the age of 98. Her homegoing service was held on July 16, 2021 at the Village Church at Shell Point in Fort Myers, Florida. Mrs. Brewer was predeceased by her husband, Rev. T. Robert Brewer in 2012.
Together the Brewers gained many “spiritual sons and daughters” at Nyack College who became the beneficiaries of the couple’s selfless demonstrations of love. During their Nyack years, Eunice was a full partner in Rev. Brewer’s work. Renowned for their generosity and hospitality, they regularly fed ever-hungry, ever-grateful Nyack students on Sunday evenings in their home.
Born Eunice Bessie Bailey on May 21, 1923, she grew up in central Maine one of four sisters. She graduated from Gordon College in Boston, MA. While there, she caught the eye of her future husband, Bob. Upon graduation, they married, and she became actively involved as a pastor’s wife at a new Christian & Missionary Alliance church in Greenfield, MA.
When they moved to Philadelphia in 1949, Eunice joined the Insurance Company of North America (INA, later known as CIGNA) as a ratings clerk in the underwriting department. When her husband was called to teach at St. Paul Bible College, she transferred to the St. Paul, Minnesota office as an underwriting assistant. In 1957, Bob was invited to teach at Nyack College in Nyack, NY, and she joined the White Plains, NY office as assistant to the office manager. Her career crested in a senior management position in the human resource department in New York City. Eunice retired in 1987 after a sterling 38-year career. After living in Connecticut for 12 years, she and Bob joined the Shell Point Retirement Community in Ft. Myers, FL in 1999.
In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Brewer’s wish was that donations be made to the scholarship established in her husband’s name at Nyack College. Gifts to the T. Robert Brewer Christian Education Scholarship can be sent to Nyack College, c/o Dr. David Jennings, Executive Vice President/Treasurer, 2 Washington Street, New York, NY 10004.
