Nyack College Staff Promotions for New Campus Advisement Center

Congratulations are in order for three Nyack College employees recently appointed to fill key roles in the Advisement Center, a new campus department, that will enhance and expand services to students. The assistance provided will include guidance in the registration process, course selection, job search tools and interviewing skills.

Shaun Patterson

Shaun Jacobs Patterson

Shaun Jacobs Patterson was promoted to the role of Advisement Center Director. He is a former Testing and Tutoring Associate and Assistant Director of the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP) at Nyack. Shaun earned a Bachelor of Science in pastoral ministry at Nyack (2012) and a Masters of Art in biblical studies at Alliance Theological Seminary (2017).

The Paterson, New Jersey native has extensive experience in community development, academic enrichment and program management. He is a former administrator of the Community Charter School of Paterson. For exceptional involvement in his community, he received the Dr. Jessie Dixon Award for Outstanding Community Service and Spiritual Leadership. His civic contributions have earned him special citations for community service from both local and state government in New Jersey.

Since 2018, Rev. Shaun Jacobs-Patterson has been the senior pastor of Triumphant Life Community Church in Trenton, NJ.

Travaughn Groce

Travaughn Groce

Travaughn Groce was named the Title III Grant Project Coordinator. He previously served in the Division of Student Success for more than four years playing an instrumental role in HEOP grant administration and reporting. Formerly the Grant & Compliance Coordinator for opportunity programs including HEOP, Foster Care, and STEM programs, his responsibilities have encompassed the management of budgets, managing data collection and ensuring compliance with legislative regulations. As Grant & Compliance Coordinator, he acted as liaison between Nyack College and the New York State Education Department. For the past two years, Travaughn has also served as a lecturer in developmental education.

Travaughn earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology at Nyack (2017) and a Master of Arts degree in biblical studies in 2020. While serving in his new leadership role, he is pursuing his doctoral studies in traumatology to bridge the gap between “health care and soul care.” Travaughn serves at Ridgeway Alliance Church where he is fulfilling his pastoral residency, teaching, and discipling members in prayer ministry and other initiatives.

Cathy Garrison

Cathy Garrison

With more than seven years of service in the Division of Student Success, Cathy Garrison is now the Advisement Center’s Director of College to Career Services. Among the several hats she has worn at Nyack College, Cathy has served as Career Coordinator, HEOP advisor, and adjunct lecturer. She earned a bachelor’s degree at Simmons College and an MBA at New York University. Her desire is to raise the standard of resume writing, interviewing and to expand internship opportunities for students as they prepare to succeed in the work force. Equally important to the former financial executive is that her students succeed in life as well as academically and professionally.
