November 11 | Nyack/ATS Veterans Honored Today
November 11, 2021
“Our debt to the heroic men and valiant women
in the service of our country can never be repaid.
They have earned our undying gratitude.”
Harry S. Truman
33rd U.S. President
Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary students who have served our country in the military were the recipients of gratitude expressed at a reception today on the campus at 2 Washington Street in Manhattan. Their spouses and children were also invited to enjoy this time set aside to honor the courageous men and women for their sacrificial service.

President Mathews kneels to wash the feet of veteran Walter Gist.
Walter Gist, a 29-year Army veteran and a veteran specialist, was invited to the celebration by Vice President of Church Relations Dr. Charles Hammond to speak to students about services available to veterans struggling with life issues. In a powerful response to the seasoned veteran’s generosity, Nyack President Rajan Mathews displayed the kind of gratitude to Mr. Gist that Christ extended to His disciples (John 13:14-15), with a footwashing, a symbol of love and humility.
