Malik Carey | Founder of The Family Healing Center Expands Services
September 23, 2021
Malik Carey, a Nyack College School of Business and Leadership alumnus, is the founder and CEO of the Family Healing Center (FHC) located at 349 East Northfield Road in Livingston, NJ. This full-service therapy clinic has served individuals and families in Northern New Jersey for the past six years. The visionary entrepreneur with a Master of Science in Organizational Leadership earned at Nyack and a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies from Seton Hall University. He is currently pursuing another master’s degree at Nyack’s School of Social Work. He once had his sights set on becoming a sports agent.
Clearly, God had other plans.
With the grand opening of the Drug & Alcohol Center on Monday, September 27 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM, he is celebrating a new milestone—an outpatient facility offering partial and intensive care for adults and adolescents.
At a ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled at 6:15 PM, special guests will include Shawn Klein, mayor of Livingston, New Jersey; Alfred Anthony, Livingston Township councilman; John Harmon, Sr., president and CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey and Malik’s pastor, Dr. David Ireland, lead pastor of Christ Church, Montclair and Rockway and an Alliance Theological Seminary alumnus.
Malik was motivated to establish the Family Healing Center after the passing of his father and also inspired to create a solution to a pervasive problem he recognized: “broken families and individuals who suffer in silence and out loud.” His vision was fueled by a desire to help people achieve optimal mental and emotional health.
The Family Healing Center offers counseling services for families and individuals provided by New Jersey State licensed and professionally trained therapists. In addition to intervention for a wide variety of addictions, counseling is available other areas, including parenting skills, conflict resolution, grief, eating disorders, trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder.
A published author, Malik Carey co-wrote In My Father’s Shoes: Healing the Father Wound, released in 2018. With a heart for service, he is involved in the West Orange, New Jersey community with faith-based organizations such as Bethany Church, The Bethany Center of Champions and Daytop Treatment Facility. A missions trip to Nicaragua provided a platform for him to come alongside of pastors and leaders to empower their communities.
Malik Carey compassionately lives the life of a servant leader; but most of all, he loves spending time with his beautiful wife, Deidra and their son, London.
