“Dreamgirls” Cast Members Visit Nyack’s Campus Radio Station
November 30, 2021
The Nyack College School of Music star student performers will light up the off-Broadway stage of the American Theatre of Actors in the musical, Dreamgirls. Three evening performances will be presented Thursday, December 2 through Saturday, December 4 at 7:30 p.m. and conclude with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on Sunday, December 5.
Two cast members, Jayla Davis and Valle Williams, visited the studio today for a conversation with Brad Hickey, station manager. Tune in to WNYK 88.7 FM and hear the enthusiasm of these talented singers and actors when the broadcast airs again on Wednesday, December 1 at 10:00 a.m. and Thursday, December 2 at 3:00 p.m.
Starring in the lead role of Effie White and in her first theatrical performance, Jayla Davis portrays the grit and resilience necessary for aspiring recording artists in the rollercoaster ride known as the music industry. Jayla is a junior earning her bachelor’s degree in gospel music performance. Born and raised in Harlem, she loves everything about music and uses her gift to encourage and uplift others. Dreamgirls holds a special place in her heart because it is a favorite film that she would watch repeatedly with her late mother and her sisters.
Valle Williams plays the role of Wayne and is also a member of the production’s vocal ensemble. Valle grew up in church finding comfort in the children’s choir. He began to write music with the goal of encouraging others and is certain he is called to share God’s love with those who are marginalized and mistreated.
Who better to perform in this production of the award-winning 1981 Broadway show and 2006 film than students who are at Nyack College pursuing their dreams and fulfilling them?
