Code for Life Students Present Capstone Projects at Nyack College
August 20, 2021
The Nyack College legacy of serving others goes beyond the ministry outreach of Nyack students and alumni who volunteer or work in a variety of environments as servant leaders. Establishing partnerships with New York City churches, businesses and non-profits is one way that the College is a resource to urban communities.
Nyack’s relationship with Code for Life represents one such initiative, a collaborative effort between the College, Praxis Connections, members of the technology community and churches to bring life skills and technology exposure to inner city youth.
Praxis Connections President Chris Troy, who has more than three decades of experience in programs for youth in Boston and New York, is the architect behind Code for Life. With a background in bringing special learning experiences to underserved communities and with the support of a design team, the Creator & Maker Cross Training curriculum was developed to educate middle school and high school students in web, mobile and hardware development skills.
With administrators, Nyack College Vice President for Church Relations Dr. Charles Hammond and Institutional Director of Admissions Rev. Kevin White on hand, the visit to Nyack’s campus introduced the young people to a higher education environment further inspiring their aspirations for achievement.
