Class Act: A Spring Semester Roundup of Faculty Achievements

Dr. Amy Davis Abdallah
Dr. Amy Davis Abdallah, Nyack College professor of Theology and Bible, recently published an article, “Female Christian Responses to Contexts of Imposed Impostorism” in TheoLogica, The International Journal for Philosophy of Religion and Philosophical Theology. Dr. Davis Abdallah is also the author of The Book of Womanhood and the founder of Woman: A Rite of Passage program for young women. With her husband, Ghiath Abdallah, Dr. Abdallah will lead the spring 2022 Global Service-Learning trip, “In the Footsteps of Paul” to Greece from June 30-July 11.

Dr. Andrew Mercurio
Dr. Andrew Mercurio, Alliance Graduate School of Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy professor and Director of the MFT Graduate Program (COAMFTE Accredited), was a featured speaker at Empowered: Christian Association for Psychological Studies Conference 2022. “Sex Therapy Assessment Strategies: Comprehensive and Systemic Tools,” was the title of his presentation. As a licensed marriage & family therapist (MFT), certified sex therapist (American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors and Therapists) and an ordained minister with the C&MA, Dr. Mercurio holds a strong interest in the theoretical and practical integration of Christian faith with sexuality.

Dr Ingyu Moon
Dr. Ingyu Moon, assistant professor of social work, was published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health. The paper, “Moderating Effects of Physical Activity on the Relationship between Adverse Childhood Experiences and Health-Related Quality of Life: was a part of a special issue Physical Education and Mental Health.

Dr. Jacqueline Washington
Dr. Jacqueline Washington, Biology and Chemistry Chair and professor has been invited to be one of seven speakers at the 2022 virtual Science Education Alliance Symposium. Dr. Washington will be presenting on her abstract, “Analysis of OscarSo and Cece: Pioneering Phage Isolated from Microbacterium radiodurans.” She has been a member of the National Association of Biology Teachers since 2006 and is the four-year college section chair.

Dr. Carlton Jean
Dr. Carlton Jean, assistant professor of social work, successfully defended his capstone presentation at New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. His presentation was entitled, “Merging Streams of Faith and Clinical Social Work Practice,” in pursuit of his Doctor of Social Welfare in Clinical Social Work.
