AU School of Music Presents: The Marion B. Howe Memorial Concert Series and Composition Commission

Alliance University School of Music is humbled and honored to be the recipient of a generous gift from the Marion B. Howe estate. Prof. Howe demonstrated a lifelong commitment to Christian living, high artistic standards, impeccable taste, and a dedication to enriching the minds and souls of her students. The School of Music will honor her legacy by presenting the Marion B. Howe Memorial Concert Series and Composition Commission. In the late 60’s, Prof. Howe created the Fine Arts Series at Nyack College, which presented top notch international and American music groups, soloists and art exhibits. This upcoming concert series in 2023 aims to bring a high-caliber and diverse roster of performers to enhance teaching and learning within our university and broader community.

Thursday, February 4, 6:00 PM – Jared Schonig Jazz Trio
From leading his own big band to playing for the musical Moulin Rouge on Broadway, Jared Schonig is one of the hottest drummers on the scene. Join us for this exciting concert as he brings his trio for a concert at AU. Come and see why Jared is considered one of the best drummers in the world.
Thursday, February 23, 6:00 PM – Mariel Mayz, Pianist/Composer/Educator
Experience Mariel Mayz’s magical virtuosity as she shares her performances of the legendary Cuban composer, Leo Brouwer and her own music.
Friday, March 24, 6:00 PM – Yacouba Sissoko, Master Kora Player
Hailing from Mali, master kora player Yacouba Sissoko brings the sounds of Africa to AU. Sissoko is an award-winning musician who has performed with Paul Simon, Harry Belafonte and Lauryn Hill. This concert will be amazing!
Wednesday, April 12, 5:00 PM – Marta Bedkowska-Reilly, Cellist and Tammy Lum, Pianist
Don’t miss this dynamic duo, playing music by Bach, Chopin, Shostakovich and Mariel Mayz, (Marion Howe Composition Commission) featuring Christina Lamberti, Mezzo Soprano.
