April 7 | The 12th Annual Nyack Scholars Symposium

April 1, 2022

Dr. Nathaniel Perez, director of the Center For Racial Reconciliation (CRR) at Nyack College will host the 12th Annual Nyack Scholars Symposium on Thursday, April 7 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the 2 Washington Street, New York City campus.

Commenting on the day’s agenda, Dr. Perez says, “In 1882, when A.B. Simpson founded what we know today as Nyack College, the world looked very different. This year’s Symposium is a re-imagining of what it means “to take the whole Gospel to the whole world.” Our theme this year is Rethinking Christian Education: Diversity, Inclusion, and Mission. My hope for everyone attending is that we can create a shared vision in advancing the Kingdom of God as we explore issues beyond diversity, strive for greater inclusiveness, and truly live out our mission of Christ.”

The morning plenary sessions will feature:

• Dr. Rebecca Hernandez: The Other Side of Diversity, Organizational Development and Racial Equity Director, Mennonite Central Committee, Goshen, IN
• Dr. Jennifer Jones Austin, Executive Director of Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies and CRR Scholar in Residence
• Dr. Jane Hong, author and history professor at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA.
• Bishop Raymond Rivera, Latino Pastoral Action Center Inc and CRR Scholar in Residence

A panel discussion with faculty and guest speakers will follow the plenary.

David Brooks, author, political and cultural commentator, and New York Times columnist is a featured afternoon breakout session speaker. In addition, Nyack College and Alliance Theological Seminary faculty will be featured presenters along with students from the Introduction to Racial Reconciliation and Faith, Power and Advocacy courses.

The event will not be livestreamed, but will be posted on the CRR webpage, where the schedule is available.
