Alliance University Family Pays Tribute to Dr. Calvin O. Butts, III (1949-2022)

The Alliance University family mourns along with the family and congregation of Dr. Calvin O. Butts III, who passed away today, Friday, October 28, 2022, at the age of 73.
Dr. Butts was the senior pastor of Harlem’s 214-year-old Abyssinian Baptist Church for more than three decades. From 1999 to 2020, he also served as the president of the State University of New York at Old Westbury on Long Island.
A pillar of the community and a social activist, Dr. Butts was one of most widely respected among clergy in the Tri-State New York area and across our nation.
“Well done, good and faithful servant” applies to the well-lived life of this Kingdom builder among New York City faith communities.
