Planned Giving

When deciding about a gift to Alliance University, Planned Giving can help you accomplish your giving goals, increase the impact of your gift, and often reduce taxes. Wise counsel can help you determine the best giving option for today and the future.

For guidance in this area, we work with Orchard Alliance, a planned giving leader and supporting organization of the C&MA, serving ministries and individuals for more than 50 years. Gift Matching

Many corporate companies offer a gift matching program that will match the contributions of a donor, up to a certain amount, to their cause of choice. This giving opportunity doubles the donations to Alliance University and opens the doors to deeper partnerships.

Please let us know if you work at a company that offers a matching gift program and we can assist you with completing the forms to request those funds. To get started, contact our Office of Advancement at collegerelations@nyack.edu.

Real Estate

A gift of real estate offers you the opportunity to make a significant charitable contribution with a tax-friendly outcome. There are several ways to donate real estate including an outright gift, retained life estate, or bargain sale.

Stocks, Bonds, and Mutual Funds

Stocks, bonds, and mutual funds are easy to give and offer great tax advantages. You can transfer the securities to us electronically through your broker or give us the stock or bond certificates and a signed stock power for each certificate. You can name Alliance University the “payable-on-death beneficiary” (POD) or “in trust for” (ITF) of your bank accounts (savings or checking) or on any Certificates of Deposits. Likewise, you can name Alliance University as a “transfer on death beneficiary” (TOD) of a brokerage account you may own. Because our tax laws often subject retirement plan assets like 401(k) and 403 (b) plans to the highest combined income and estate taxes, charitable donations of these assets may be the most efficient estate planning option.

Life Insurance

You may donate a life insurance policy and name Alliance University as the beneficiary of that policy.  For the gift of a paid-up policy, you will be entitled to an income tax deduction equal to the lesser of the cash value of the policy or the total premiums paid. To qualify for the federal charitable contribution deduction on a gift of an existing policy, you must name the charitable organization owner and beneficiary.  Even if you are still paying premiums on your policy, you can give it away and future gifts to pay the premiums will also be tax-deductible.

Charitable Gift Annuity

This is a simple contract between you and Alliance University that pays you a fixed dollar amount (an annuity) for your lifetime and that of another individual, if desired, based upon your age(s) at the time of your gift. The older you are, the higher the annuity.  If you use appreciated property, such as stocks, to fund the gift annuity, you will avoid the capital gains tax on the gift portion of the transaction and the remaining gain will be apportioned over your lifetime.

Bequests

One of the most popular types of planned gifts is bequests. Anything you leave to a charitable organization will reduce the size of your taxable estate while helping a good cause.  You can leave a specific bequest of a specified sum of money or a particular piece of property to Alliance University. Other options are to leave a percentage of your estate or a percentage of the residue to us after making provisions for family and friends.

From Our Students

I honestly believe that my AU degree will equip me to be an educator in ways that other schools cannot. The School of Education has given me so many tools and techniques that will be beneficial in the classroom. Unlike many schools, AU instills Christian values and beliefs that turn teaching into a passion and not just a career.

Alissa Marie Brugnoli
Childhood Special Education, Class of 2020

Every time I stepped out of the train at the World Trade Center, I stepped into the Oculus filled with people from different nations and heard different languages. The beauty of human difference surrounded me and inspired me. When I stepped into an ATS classroom, I hadn’t left those diverse nations behind me. They were here, sitting next to me.

Andrew Brackmann
ATS, Class of 2021

I was drawn to the institution’s diversity, Christ-centric community, and the promise of personal transformation, spiritual growth, and deep understanding of the Bible. I was sure God called me to this transformative and influential institution.

Seong Min Nam
Pastoral Ministry, Class of 2021

The Impact of Becoming a Donor

“I found myself mesmerized, seeing at AU a strong hint of the future for American Christianity and it was a beautiful future – an icon of joy and vitality and confidence in God’s power, and the power of the Gospel, over and above worldly power and control, worldly measures of status and influence.”

                 – Anne Snyder, Editor-in-Chief, Comment Magazine

“I am not a graduate of Alliance University, but I believe what AU stands for: to exalt Christ and to fulfill His mission by being socially relevant and personally transforming. To those who agree with the core values of Alliance University, we together can support this institution financially and in our prayers.”

                 – Dr. TY Lee, Retired Pharmaceutical R&D Consultant

“I graduated from the Alliance Graduate School of Counseling in 2006. I took ownership of Wellsprings Counseling Center, LLC in 2008. I was on full-time faculty at Alliance University between 2012 and 2019 and launched AU’s online MA in Mental Health Counseling in 2016. I now have 30 licensed counselors on staff and 22 of us are Alliance University Mental Health Counseling graduates! My passion is for Alliance University. I want to show my support by giving back.”

                – Lisa Steiner, Ph.D., LPC, LMHC, Wellspring Counseling Center
